Many of my clients struggle with:
- Getting things done.
- Managing their time.
- Losing weight.
- Having enough money.
- Achieving the goals they set.
They believe they have lots of evidence for why things aren’t working out.
They tell me:
- There just isn’t enough time.
- My loved one would be upset if I didn’t eat …
- But I had to buy …
- I thought I could reach this goal, but it’s too hard.
All of these are issues with personal integrity.
Don’t beat yourself.
Just consider that personal integrity can go a long way to achieving anything in your life.
Yep, personal integrity is your own private:
- Personal Trainer
- Accountability Partner
- Drill Sargent
Think of it like this:
Parents ask their kids, “Did you do your homework?”
The child says, “No I will do it later.”
The parent replies, “Go do it now.”
At the gym 3 burpees are hard …
Yet your personal trainer says, “Give me 2 more” and you do.
You make a commitment and share it with your accountability partner,
So, you will honor your commitment.
In boot camp, you absolutely do what the Drill Sargent tells you to do.
All of that is teaching personal integrity.
Somewhere along the way, you were taught personal integrity.
But, like exercising, if you don’t use it, you will lose it.
It is common that we expect others to keep their word,
But we don’t keep our word with ourselves.
That is because our mind wants to:
- Avoid discomfort
- Seek pleasure
Keeping the word you gave to yourself often feels uncomfortable.
Your mind tells you:
- It is ok to do it later.
- Starting the diet tomorrow will be easier.
- Spending the money now will feel good.
- You need it.
- You deserve it.
- That goal is too hard.
It is important to remember that you, not your mind, is in charge of your life.
You can choose to:
- Have your own back.
- Be your own accountability partner.
- Be the parent to your mind.
All of that is personal integrity.
All of that will help you achieve the results you desire.
