I’ve been thinking a lot about age.
My birthday is on Monday.
It is one of those decade birthdays.
So, for the last few months I have been pondering:
- What is too old?
- Is there a way life is supposed to be at a certain age?
- Do you really get too old to change?
- Are you ever too old to have the life you want?
Today I was listening to a podcast.
One of the guests was 66 years old.
She started her business 7 years ago.
So far this year she has earned $300,000.
This is the first year she has done that.
It has been a progression from $0, $50K, $100K now $300K.
People ask her if she is ready to retire.
Her answer is: “No, I am having too much fun!”
Isn’t that interesting.
At a time when most people slow down …
She is just getting going.
I can relate.
On Monday I will be …
60 years young.
My husband is 12 years my senior.
He still works full-time.
Yep, if you did the math you know he is 71 soon to be 72.
Yep, he still works full-time as a Journeyman Electrician.
His job is very physically active.
Yet two years ago we agreed that I would branch out.
That I would start a new business.
I had comfortable good paying work as an independent contractor.
But the work I do now had been calling to my heart.
So, at a time when people are counting the days and dollars to retirement …
I started anew.
You may think that I and my husband are crazy.
And that’s ok.
This isn’t the first time I’ve done something “crazy”.
Four years ago, and never having been athletic …
I trained for and bicycled a 500-mile bike ride.
Here is my point:
- You are never too old.
- It is never too late.
You only have one life.
You can create who you want to be at any point in your life.
You can start anew.
So many people reach a certain age and decided to settle.
But they are miserable.
What is it you want?
Who do you want to be?
What do you want to create?
This is your one and only life.
